Silverwing Quick-Tip: Octane Render Multiple Labels in one Render (OC Internal Compositing)
MESSAGE:
This week it's both a practical and a bit of a nerdy one, since we are doing, what probable might be handy for product viz: Rendering out a product with different labels in one go. Either by compositing it in Octanes internal AOV Groups compositing system. Or compositing it externally in Fusion Studio (what we are going to look at) or AfterEffects. If you have Plugins like "Re:Map UV" then you can even bring the label in in comp without having to render it first at all.

MESSAGE: This is Part 2 of our Laser series where we are going to look at methods to create something that mimics a laser light in octane. Last week we focused on lights and light projections and therefore got a rather realistic representation of lasers. This week we are going to change gears and look at a more nerdy, fake method. It will probably fun and the technique can, as always, be used t...

Hope to see more of the fusion comp bit in the future tutorials as well!!! Kudos
This is amazing!!!

Love seeing some fusion comping!
Hey hey 🥇 Thank you very much: The part in Fusion is rather small. I hope you enjoy it anyway ✨
This was so well explained! Thanks!
Astonishing!
Can’t wait for this one, that ice, those bubble pops…
I’d love to see how you did it, the realism on the surface bubbles is crazy
Great, looking forward to your detailed tutorial!
Very nice! Did this myself for a client still with ice in a cocktail glass and render times were crazy. Would love to see your process 🙏
Show us how you lit this my boy!
I am planning a PCB tut (series) I will go over the lighting there 🙌 As you know me, it's very minimal. So not a big deal to be honest 😇
Thank you! For a long time I couldn’t find the answer why the mask is not perfect and has a border of several pixels... I thought it was a mistake, but it turns out that’s how it works, it’s a shame. Thanks again.
Teacher, do you plan to open a class on octane compositing in Blender!?
Hey there and thank you very much for your comment. I have not planned it yet, but it might be a good idea. So thank you very much for your suggestion 🙏
Welcome to the Blender community. We are glad to have you here. Would really love some indepth photoreal Cycles tutorials from you.
Ohhhh, thank you so much. I really appreciate you welcoming me into the community! Also thank you very much for your suggestion. I might do that in the future 🙌
Awesome, nice, clean, and short tutorial.
Thank you very much. Great to hear that 🙌
2:20 How you make the light gradient texture visible in cycles?
Hey there and thank you very much for your question. When you create a light in Cycles, on default it is turned off from "Camera" rays in the object menu under "Ray Visibility" If you turn that on again, you will also see the light in your rendered viewport.
How would you use this to project textures from live action plate footage so the environment has correct scene. Diffuse or emission texture? Also, how would you then setup the projected textures as shadow catcher as well to get realistic shadows and reflections?
Hey there and thank you very much for your question. I think this is a bit complicated since you want to use the image to affect the object in the reflection / refraction and also diffuse lighting. If it would just be about the emission and not the Shadow Catching aspect of it, I would use pure emission with it. Set a diffuse material with black diffuse, then use a "Texture Emission" with "Surface Brightness" ticked on. Though this then would not catch shadows and reflections. So you could experiment with also using the same image on the diffuse and then, depending on the material of the projected object also add a reflection. This is only possible with the universal material. Since the Diffuse Material does not have a reflection and the Glossy Material does not have emission. So you could make a universal material with e.g. a glossy reflection and a projected texture, that goes into the color (Albedo) and emission. If you are OK with just a Shadow as well as the Diffuse GI of the Object, stick with the Diffuse Material. Then use the render layers to get your object-, it's shadow and it's reflection separated and on its own render pass / render layer. This can be merged in compositing (like After Effects, Nuke or Fusion Studio) or within octanes own internal compositing context. I have videos on all of those: Render Layer & External Comp in After Effects: ruclips.net/video/YB4LBf_t_Xs/видео.html Render Layer & Internal Comp: ruclips.net/video/bEgjnyNwOSg/видео.html New Internal Compositing Nodes (This might be necessary to know what to do in newer Octane versions): ruclips.net/video/ULrxD_7fJKs/видео.html Basically you would use your video as an background layer (like what I do in the second video with the gray background) Hope this all makes sense and helps. If you have questions, then feel free to ask
Thank you so much for your videos! Can you make one on Octane and the ACES Tone mapping. Color management is changing and it is so messy 🙈
Hey there and thank you very much for your comment and suggestion. I have made multiple of those already. Just go to my profile and search for ACES. I also have videos on how to handle those in the Comp software as AfterEffects and FusionStudio. Here's the one I would suggest. But feel free to also watch the others, they are also still relevant, depending on what you want to do. ruclips.net/video/g-PqaZdBS94/видео.html

Hey hey, and thank you so much for your comment. That's super awesome to hear! I hope I can continue this trend in the future.
thank you, this is exactly what I was looking for.
Thank you! Super nice hearing that 🙌
Hi there. Thank you for this tutorial. I'm trying to get the screen refresh flickering that appears in your final render but it's not happening. Just to be clear is that what the rayswitcher does? Thank you!
Hey there and thank you very much for your comment and question. The Rayswitch makes the whole image dimmer for whats on screen and makes it brighter for it's scene interaction. The refresh flickering is an effect I do not go over in the tut. It's just a gradient that is also multiplied over the picture input and is repeating moving upwards (animated the UV Transform)
@@SilverwingVFX thank you. in my opinion this is the part that really sells the final look. I can't seem to get this to work but im also an octane newbie. I will keep trying. Thanks again for all the tutorials.
Thank you very much for your answer. If you email me (the address is on my website) I can send you the shader setup for the flicker effect.
@@SilverwingVFX wow thank you. incredibly kind and generous of you. emailiing now! :)

Hello Sir, How to i Get Optical Glow Plugin foe Adobe AE ? please Sir Reply me.
Hey there. You need to subscribe to Maxons Red Giant VFX suite, it's part of that. As an alternative you can also buy Deep Glow, this does the same thing but is from a different developer.
Thank You sir
Thank You for Valuable Answer.😊😊😊
can we still set up OCIO sRGB workflow in octane(as your last video on this) instead of LDR/RGB and get the same result in After effects with this new native ACES setup? setting up OCIO/sRGB in octane viewer helps in finalizing the look better for me.
Hey there and thank you very much for your comment. I am actually not that sure what you are asking. I am trying to answer if I am not answering the right questions, feel free to correct me. In Octane: You can still setup the ACES workflow the way you like. Either through the one click solution or through the OCIO file. You can see the process of that in this video here: 9:09 P.s. in Octane you will get the same result in the live viewer with the one click solution as with OCIO ACES to sRGB. There should not be a difference! Concerning the output: You can setup Octane however you please. The only thing important that you do to make AE receive the ACES data is to set the output of Octane to EXR and the Color Space to ACEScg as seen here: 11:22 This will ignore all the color settings that you made in octane and save out the EXRs in ACEScg color space. Hope this helps! Cheers and a great start into the week to you 🙌
@@SilverwingVFX Hey, thank you so much. This would definitely help me. Earlier, i had little different approach, where ACES is baked in the output setting with buffer type LDR*(8bit) and color space to OCIO, but it dint work in After effects well for color correcting. But thanks to you, i have a solid worklfow. 🙏
@@chelpark23 If it's just about a bit of color correction in after effects you can also bake your look in to 16bit PNGs, by choosing the ACES to sRGB one click solution and changing the Octane output from EXR (Octane) to PNG (Octane). If you want to blend Images e.g. light-passes together, and get the right output then in the Octane Live Viewer, then you need to go with a linear image format and EXRs ✨
🔅🔅🔆 Thank you.
Ohhh, thank you as well 🙌✨🔆✨🙌
Wonderful idea, thank you very much.
And thank you very much for your comment. Much appreciated 🙌
this method could be used as earth shader, half day , half night textures
Thank you very much for your comment. Uhhhh yes, this is another usecase I did not think about. That would be perfectly suited for that. Thank you for your input 🙌
very informative as always, do you planing to do a similar video with Blender and Octane? I wish you all the best :)
Thank you very much for your comment. It would be so cool to also do every topic that I provide as a Blender Octane tut. But unfortunately I have very little time to do that right now. Hopefully I can make some room in the future to provide more Blender Videos again!

Is this peak nerd? It must be close, lasers, simulated in a spectral renderer using OSL. Maybe a VBD to project onto….Excellent as always.
Ha ha ha, thank you very much. Yeah, I guess it's pretty nerdy. VDBs are an interesting idea 🤔 Super happy you liked it ✨
First time I've seen a post just 55 seconds since release. Looks exciting as always!
Uhhh super nice! You definitely earned this ✨🥇✨
Hello hello! I've been using the distribution for years (to use gobos and flag light without relying on geometry) and I didn't know how it actually worked and instead assumed that it creates invisible cones and projects an image similar to how a raycasting node would work, but I'm glad to know it's much simpler than that, thank you for explaining it the way you did, now, a rave won't be complete without ✳(light streaks) let's add a volume medium and watch pixels jump colors Lately, I've been into baking due to the fields tutorial and this also has potential there, basically at the top of my head I'm thinking of sharper laser engravings (by stacking the animation frames in an additive manner to get the build-up animation), also abstract growth effects can be done in texture space without the need for super dense meshes if you're reading this comment and wondering how to bake textures in octane, please check Raph's tutorial on the matter here: ruclips.net/video/gcJNWtI7ouc/видео.htmlsi=sA65hG86LRAIwvIN excited for part 2 and expanding my very limited OSL knowledge, Cheers and wish you a great week ahead!🙌🌟

Thanks! I don't love dirty hacks like that....but now at least I can see my particles! However, I'm using the Data Mapper with Age property to affect Radius, and that causes them to pop up and down uncontrollably, it's weird. For now i'm sticking with X-Particles!
Thank you very much for your message and your report. I would need to try on my end, but sounds like maybe a limitation. And you are right that X-Particles is better established. P.s. this "Dirty Trick" is Maxons official way to support their particles in other renderers then Redshift. Even their own Standard and Physical renderer 😇😇
@@SilverwingVFX seems to be the same even with standard renderer, so not an issue with your technique! Just a bug.

13:40 You dont need to select the thing you are trying to optimize. You can just hover over it with your mouse and hold/press "O". Other great tips include: -Double Middle Mouse selects a whole object even after cuting it. (In Polygon Mode) -"I" is for isolate and "H" is for hiding. (To unhide everything press "Show" on the Top Right of the 3D Viewport. -UDIMs are incredibly useful and Rizom has great support for checking Texel Density. -You can easily select streched parts of your model my just selecting them from the Distortion Gradient at the Bottom. (What I do is select the outliers and hold "O" till they move further to the center. Or just "F" to focus on them or "I" to Isolate them. -If you have instanced Geo, use TopoCopy. Its SOOOO usefull. You can cut one Object and copy the changes to all other similar objects. You can even stack the UVs. -Try out the Magic Wand while in Polygon Mode. Turn on Coplanar (Put to 20) and Curved (Put to 85-90). You can make selections and then convert the border to edge selections (go back to edge mode and find the option in the select pannel) and make easy cuts. Helped me a lot for selecting Edges on bad Geo. Hope this helps someone, great Video as always. :) Been recently using alot of RizomUV since C4Ds UV Editor is a Joke.
